Jia Yue obtained her Master of Science in Speech and Language Pathology from the National University of Singapore and has been working in paediatric settings since her graduation. As part of her graduate training, she obtained clinical experience working with children and adults at a school for children with special needs and restructured hospitals. She also presented her research poster on “The Relationship between Language Dominance and Fear of Negative Evaluation (FNE) in Bilingual Adults” at the Speech Pathology Australia 2015 Conference, which provides preliminary normative data for clinicians to assess bilingual adults who stutter.

Prior to her master degree, Jia Yue graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology (Honours) from the Australian National University. Her previous work experience included working as an EQ coach providing social and emotional learning classes for 3 to 10 year old children, during which she was certified as an EQ educator by 6 Seconds.

A firm believer in the importance of continuous professional development, Jia Yue had attended several courses to expand her clinical knowledge. She is certified in the It Takes Two To Talk program and the Target Word program by Hanen Centre. In addition, she received training in the PROMPT technique, the Learn to Play Program for Children with Autism and Trauma, the Lindamood-Bell Visualising and Verbalising Program, the Social Thinking approach by Michelle Garcia Winner, ‘Childhood Apraxia of Speech from Diagnosis to Discharge’ (2 day seminar by Dr Tricia McCabe at the Hong Kong Speech and Hearing Symposium 2018) and basic Singapore Sign Language by the Singapore Association for The Deaf.

She has a keen interest in working with children with special needs, particularly autism spectrum disorders, whose difficulties may include the areas of speech, language, and social skills. She believes that working in tandem with the child’s parents and other professionals will provide the best support for his/her development.

Jia Yue is fluent in English and Mandarin.
