Come join us for our Resourceful Adolescent Program!
What is RAP?
The Resourceful Adolescent Program (RAP-A) aims to help teenagers between the ages of 11- 15 handle challenging situations which may arise during this period of change. It is designed to build positive coping strategies and resiliency in teenagers when they face stressful and difficult circumstances.
RAP-A is a strength based program that builds self-esteem by focusing on each participant’s individual strengths. It uses elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) to build resiliency in teenagers.
The cognitive-behavioural component teaches participants about the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviour, provides techniques in relaxation and stress management, and supports problem solving skills. The interpersonal component focuses on perspective taking and building supportive networks during periods of interpersonal conflict.
|1.||What are my strengths?||Participants get to know one another, identify personal strengths, and learn about the RAP model|
|2.||Learning to keep calm||Participants learn to identify body cues related to positive and negative feelings, and learn strategies to relax when facing stressful situations|
|3.||I am what I think||Participants examine how thoughts affect their emotions and behaviour, and learn to identify risky thoughts that may lead to negative outcomes|
|4.||I can change my thinking||Participants learn how to challenge their risky thoughts and reframe them into resourceful thoughts|

|7.||Let’s celebrate||Participants conclude the program by reviewing the strategies learnt, and celebrate new friendships.|
Evidence of effectiveness
The efficacy and effectiveness of RAP-A have been supported through several randomized controlled trials across several countries. Results have found significant improvement in the participant’s self-esteem, coping skills, and general well-being. These results were maintained during the 6 and 10 month follow-up.
