The Feeding Clinic

The Feeding Clinic is a multidisciplinary clinic run by the Speech Therapist and Dietician. The intention of the Feeding Clinic is to assess and treat babies and children with feeding problems, and provide parenting, behaviour and nutrition support to parents.

The clinic provides individualized treatment, which could involve modification of consistency to ensure safe swallowing, implementation of therapeutic feeding strategies, improving oromotor skills, developing age appropriate feeding skills, and modification of meal plan to enhance growth and nutrition.

The Feeding Clinic would be suitable for children with:

  • Feeding/ swallowing problems
  • Structural/anatomic (e.g. laryngomalacia, cleft and craniofacial)
  • Airway/pulmonary (e.g. CLD)
  • Oral feeding delayed
  • Medical/surgical (e.g. Cardiac, GI issues)
  • Fatigue in cardiac cases
  • Neurological issues
  • Behavioral issues (e.g. fussy eaters, aversion to textures)

Some signs and symptoms of feeding difficulties in children:

  • Irritability or excessive crying during feeding
  • Lethargy or lack of alertness during feeding
  • Extended feeding times (e.g. more than 30 minutes)
  • Coughing or gagging when feeding
  • Difficulties sucking on the bottle or breast
  • Poor weight gain or growth
  • Recurring pneumonia or respiratory infections
  • Frequent vomitting
  • Picky about different textures of food
  • Sensation of food or liquid is sticking in the throat during swallowing

*It is important for your child to be seen by a Paediatrician before he/ she is seen at the feeding clinic. This is to rule out any underlying medical conditions that may be causing the feeding problem.
